About the Book

This book is conversational in nature. You and I are in dialog as we explore a variety of topics from cradle to grave surrounding what it means to live an enviable life. I am not going to tell you what to do; but hopefully, our interactions through the information, stories, and images will facilitate you creating a fulfilling life for your loved one.

The title of the book can be thought of as two different, but interrelated tracts—Creating and Living an Enviable Life AND A Guide Supporting Individuals with Medical Complexities.

I believe that much of the time I worked to create and live an enviable life is best illustrated through both photos and stories. Each photo’s context, emotions, and expressions powerfully convey how Aidan lived and what he loved—his enviable life. The Facebook posts also tell how Aidan enjoyed life to the fullest. As a result, there are a lot of photos and posts throughout the chapters to immerse you in what Aidan and those in his company experienced and the joy his life brought to both him and those with whom he shared it.

The second tract is the narrative I include that provides the background information and best practices of the what, how, when, why, and who of A Guidebook Supporting Individuals with Medical Complexities. Overviews by professionals begin most chapters and provide additional insights. The narrative serves as the base to provide suggestions of how you can navigate the many situations and challenges you will encounter.

Together they tell the entire story. If they were separated into two books, much would be lost and not be as meaningful, or as joyous a conveyance of the wonderful and full life Aidan lived. I have interwoven these two elements into each chapter. Some chapters will have more photos since the emotions and feelings they illustrate best convey the main points, while other chapters rely more on information and specific accounts in our lives. I hope you agree that this approach brings the manuscript to life.
